Supporting creativity,
self-expression and wellness through art.

Art Therapy Student | Therapeutic Arts Practitioner

I’m a Greater Toronto Area-based art therapy student, Therapeutic Arts Practitioner, artist and designer, currently studying toward my Art Psychotherapy Diploma with the Canadian International Institute of Art Therapy.

My art therapy services are provided under the supervision of a registered art therapist at CiiAT.

I believe creativity can help us express what is difficult to put into words, discover new things about ourselves and find moments of connection and joy.

About Talya Moshinsky

Creativity has been at the heart of my life and work for more than 25 years. My path has taken me from graphic design and professional art practice to teaching art and, ultimately, to studying art therapy.

Art Therapy Student

I’m currently studying toward CiiAT’s Art Psychotherapy Diploma, bringing together my creative background, experience working with people and training in art therapy and mental health.

Therapeutic Arts Practitioner

My interest in the connection between creativity and emotional wellbeing led me to train as a Therapeutic Arts Practitioner through CiiAT, using art-making to support reflection, expression and connection.

Artist & Creative Professional

I’m a practicing artist specializing in painting and pottery, with a 25+ year professional background in graphic design and visual communication.

I’ve taught art to children, adults and older adults, and love helping people let go of perfection, try something new and discover the joy of creating.

WHAT IS ART THERAPY?

When Words
Aren’t Enough

Art therapy is a mental health profession that integrates the creative process with psychotherapy within a supportive therapeutic relationship.

While talking is an important part of therapy, sometimes our experiences can be difficult to explain in words alone. Art-making offers another way to communicate and explore thoughts, feelings, relationships and life experiences.

Using materials such as drawing, painting, clay, collage and mixed media, the creative process can support emotional expression, self-awareness, reflection, coping and personal insight. It can also provide a tangible way to explore experiences, allowing something internal to be understood from a different perspective.

Art therapy can be used alongside verbal conversation and other therapeutic approaches to support mental and emotional wellbeing.

You don’t need to be an artist.

Art therapy is not an art class, and there is no expectation that the artwork needs to look a certain way.

The focus is on the process of creating and exploring, rather than artistic skill or the finished product. A simple line, colour, shape or piece of clay can become a starting point for reflection and conversation.

Where Art Can Help

Creative expression can offer another way to explore experiences across different ages and stages of life.

Stress & Anxiety

Creative expression can provide a way to slow down, explore emotions and develop greater awareness of thoughts and feelings.

Grief & Loss

Art can provide a meaningful way to express feelings, remember, reflect and explore experiences of grief and loss.

Life Transitions

Creative exploration can provide support during periods of change, uncertainty, adjustment or new beginnings.

Self-Esteem & Identity

Art-making can create opportunities to explore identity, strengths and experiences while encouraging self-discovery and confidence.

Loneliness & Connection

Creative experiences — particularly in groups — can encourage communication, shared experience and a sense of connection and belonging.

Personal Growth

Art therapy isn’t only for times of difficulty. It can also provide space for reflection, curiosity, self-awareness and discovering new perspectives.

Creativity
Without
Judgment

My approach is warm, curious and non-judgmental. I want people to feel free to experiment and create without worrying about whether they are “good at art.”

I believe meaningful therapeutic work can happen alongside play, curiosity and joy. Sometimes what matters most isn’t what we create, but what we discover while creating it.

Ways We Can Work Together

ART THERAPY

As a Student Art Therapist

As an Art Therapy Student studying toward CiiAT’s Art Psychotherapy Diploma, I am currently exploring clinical practicum opportunities with organizations in the Greater Toronto Area.

Art therapy services are provided under the supervision of a registered art therapist and may include:

Individual Art Therapy

One-to-one art therapy sessions using creative expression and conversation within a supportive therapeutic relationship.

Art Therapy Groups

Facilitated group sessions using the creative process to support expression, reflection, connection and emotional wellbeing.

THERAPEUTIC ARTS PROGRAMMING

As a Therapeutic Arts Practitioner

As a Therapeutic Arts Practitioner, artist and experienced art instructor, I am also available to facilitate non-clinical creative wellness programming.

This can include therapeutic arts groups, creative wellness workshops, individual sessions and customized programs using painting, clay, mixed media and other creative approaches.

Programs can be adapted for children, youth, adults and older adults and developed around the needs of a particular organization or community.
